01DAY

Central Kyoto, the City of Merchants and Geiko

The morning begins at the Kyoto Imperial Palace and its wide park, then heads south along the Kamo river to Nishiki Market, about 400 metres of covered arcade with over a hundred stalls. The afternoon crosses the traditional Gion district, its teahouses and the Hanamikoji lane, before reaching Pontocho at dusk, when the lantern light makes it the best moment of the day.
